FAQ
1. What types of waste can I use a skip bin?
You can place various waste types in a skip bin, including general household waste, green waste (such as branches, leaves, and grass clippings), construction and demolition debris (like bricks, concrete, and tiles), and mixed waste. It’s important to specify the type of waste when hiring a bin to ensure proper disposal and recycling. For more information on the available options, check out the different skip bins sizes to find the perfect fit for your needs.
2. Are there any items that cannot be put into a skip bin?
Yes, there are restrictions on certain items for safety and environmental reasons. Hazardous materials such as asbestos, chemicals, batteries, paint, tyres, and electronic waste (e-waste) like computers and TVs are generally not allowed in skip bins. It’s best to check with the skip bin provider for a detailed list of prohibited items.
3. Can I mix other types of waste in one skip bin?
This depends on the skip bin hire service. Some providers offer mixed waste bins where you can combine different types of non-hazardous waste, but it might affect the price due to the sorting and disposal process. Always confirm mixing waste types and any potential additional costs with the provider.
4. How should I dispose of prohibited items that cannot go in a skip bin?
Contact your local office or waste management facility for advice on disposal methods for hazardous or prohibited items. Many areas have specialised facilities for hazardous waste, recycling centres for e-waste, and tyre recycling programs.
5. What happens to the waste after it's removed from my property?
Skip bin hire companies typically transport waste to an officially licenced disposal facility where it is sorted. Recyclables are separated and sent to recycling centres, while non-recyclable waste is disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner, often at a landfill. Some companies also provide detailed reports on waste diversion and recycling efforts.
